Test your broadband link
What properties can you test?
Our online tools can measure your link bandwidths and router queue sizes in both upstream and
downstream directions. Link bandwidths and router queue sizes critically affect the performance of emerging
applications, such as BitTorrent, VoIP, and online games.
Why test your broadband link?
Learn more about your broadband service: Today, residential ISPs do not clearly specify
the quality of service they provide. Instead, they often use phrases such as "link speeds up to 6 Mbps".
Our tools enable you yo measure the service you are actually getting.
Once we have sufficient number of data points, we will publish aggregate statistics of ISPs' performance
on these web pages.
Help systems researchers and application developers: Broadband networks are some of the least understood
parts of the Internet.
We will make the data about your link characteristics available for researchers and developers wishing
to test the performance of their designs via simulation and emulation experiments.
Who are we?
We are researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems.
Our research focuses on characterizing residential broadband networks and understanding their
implications for the designers of future protocols and applications.
